"Tokachi Wine" is a collective term for wines produced at the Ikeda Town Grape and Wine Research Institute in Hokkaido, and it has become a regional brand.

In 1952, the Tokachi Offshore Earthquake struck, followed by two years of crop failures due to cold damage. At that time, the Tokachi region faced a series of natural disasters, and in response to this adversity, efforts were initiated to engage in "grape cultivation" and "wine production."

In 1960, a group of rural youth formed a grape enthusiasts' club, marking the beginning of a formidable challenge - grape cultivation from scratch. Guided by the philosophy that "wine making starts with grape cultivation," the town's vineyard provided technical guidance on grape production, as well as the development of new varieties, including cold-resistant hybrid varieties.

The "Tokachi Ainu Grape Wine," made from wild mountain grapes native to Ikeda Town, proudly won a bronze medal at the 4th International Wine Competition in Budapest.
To date, over 21,000 varieties have been developed through crosses between mountain grapes and wine-making varieties. Among these, "Seibu" and "Yamayuki" are held with high expectations to shape the future of Tokachi Wine.

The Ikeda Town Grape and Wine Research Institute, often affectionately referred to as the "Wine Castle" due to its resemblance to medieval European castles, offers a variety of attractions including a grape exhibition garden, underground aging cellars, shopping areas, and restaurants.

Visitors can enjoy both free and paid winery tours, providing an enjoyable opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Tokachi Wine.
